Chapter 1 |:Jehovah Regardeth the Way of the Righteous:|
א אַשְׁרֵי הָאִישׁ– אֲשֶׁר לֹא הָלַךְ, בַּעֲצַת רְשָׁעִים;
וּבְדֶרֶךְ חַטָּאִים, לֹא עָמָד, וּבְמוֹשַׁב לֵצִים, לֹא יָשָׁב. 1
Happy is the man that hath not walked in the counsel of the wicked, {N}
nor stood in the way of sinners, nor sat in the seat of the scornful.

ב כִּי אִם בְּתוֹרַת יְהוָה, חֶפְצוֹ; וּבְתוֹרָתוֹ יֶהְגֶּה, יוֹמָם וָלָיְלָה. 2
But his delight is in the teaching of jehovah; and in His law doth he meditate day and night.

ג וְהָיָה– כְּעֵץ, שָׁתוּל עַל-פַּלְגֵי-מָיִם:
אֲשֶׁר פִּרְיוֹ, יִתֵּן בְּעִתּוֹ–וְעָלֵהוּ לֹא-יִבּוֹל; וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר-יַעֲשֶׂה יַצְלִיחַ. 3
And he shall be like a tree planted by streams of water, {N}
that bringeth forth its fruit in its season, and whose leaf doth not wither; and in whatsoever he doeth he shall prosper.

ד לֹא-כֵן הָרְשָׁעִים: כִּי אִם-כַּמֹּץ, אֲשֶׁר-תִּדְּפֶנּוּ רוּחַ. 4
Not so the wicked; but they are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

ה עַל-כֵּן, לֹא-יָקֻמוּ רְשָׁעִים–בַּמִּשְׁפָּט; וְחַטָּאִים, בַּעֲדַת צַדִּיקִים. 5
Therefore the wicked shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

ו כִּי-יוֹדֵעַ יְהוָה, דֶּרֶךְ צַדִּיקִים; וְדֶרֶךְ רְשָׁעִים תֹּאבֵד. 6
For jehovah regardeth the way of the righteous; but the way of the wicked shall perish. {P}

Chapter 2 |:Thou Art My Son This Day Have I Begotten Thee:|
א לָמָּה, רָגְשׁוּ גוֹיִם; וּלְאֻמִּים, יֶהְגּוּ-רִיק. 1
Why are the nations in an uproar? And why do the peoples mutter in vain?

ב יִתְיַצְּבוּ, מַלְכֵי-אֶרֶץ– וְרוֹזְנִים נוֹסְדוּ-יָחַד:
עַל-יְהוָה, וְעַל-מְשִׁיחוֹ. 2
The kings of the earth stand up, and the rulers take counsel together, {N}
against jehovah, and against His anointed:

ג נְנַתְּקָה, אֶת-מוֹסְרוֹתֵימוֹ; וְנַשְׁלִיכָה מִמֶּנּוּ עֲבֹתֵימוֹ. 3
‘Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.’

ד יוֹשֵׁב בַּשָּׁמַיִם יִשְׂחָק: אֲדֹנָי, יִלְעַג-לָמוֹ. 4
He that sitteth in heaven laugheth, my Lord hath them in derision.

ה אָז יְדַבֵּר אֵלֵימוֹ בְאַפּוֹ; וּבַחֲרוֹנוֹ יְבַהֲלֵמוֹ. 5
Then will He speak unto them in His wrath, and affright them in His sore displeasure:

ו וַאֲנִי, נָסַכְתִּי מַלְכִּי: עַל-צִיּוֹן, הַר-קָדְשִׁי. 6
‘Truly it is I that have established My king upon Zion, My holy mountain.’

ז אֲסַפְּרָה, אֶל-חֹק: יְהוָה, אָמַר אֵלַי בְּנִי אַתָּה–אֲנִי, הַיּוֹם יְלִדְתִּיךָ. 7
I will tell of the decree:
Jehovah said unto me:
‘Thou art My son, this day have I begotten thee.

ח שְׁאַל מִמֶּנִּי–וְאֶתְּנָה גוֹיִם, נַחֲלָתֶךָ; וַאֲחֻזָּתְךָ, אַפְסֵי-אָרֶץ. 8
Ask of Me, and I will give the nations for thine inheritance, and the ends of the earth for thy possession.

ט תְּרֹעֵם, בְּשֵׁבֶט בַּרְזֶל: כִּכְלִי יוֹצֵר תְּנַפְּצֵם. 9
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.’

י וְעַתָּה, מְלָכִים הַשְׂכִּילוּ; הִוָּסְרוּ, שֹׁפְטֵי אָרֶץ. 10
Now therefore, O ye kings, be wise; be admonished, ye judges of the earth.

יא עִבְדוּ אֶת-יְהוָה בְּיִרְאָה; וְגִילוּ, בִּרְעָדָה. 11
Serve jehovah with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

יב נַשְּׁקוּ-בַר, פֶּן-יֶאֱנַף וְתֹאבְדוּ דֶרֶךְ– כִּי-יִבְעַר כִּמְעַט אַפּוֹ:
אַשְׁרֵי, כָּל-חוֹסֵי בוֹ. 12
Do homage in purity, lest He be angry, and ye perish in the way, when suddenly His wrath is kindled. {N}
Happy are all they that take refuge in Him. {P}

Chapter 3 |:Thou O Jehovah Art A Shield About Me:|
א מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד: בְּבָרְחוֹ, מִפְּנֵי אַבְשָׁלוֹם בְּנוֹ. 1
A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.
ב יְהוָה, מָה-רַבּוּ צָרָי; רַבִּים, קָמִים עָלָי. 2
Jehovah, how many are mine adversaries become! Many are they that rise up against me.

ג רַבִּים, אֹמְרִים לְנַפְשִׁי: אֵין יְשׁוּעָתָה לּוֹ בֵאלֹהִים סֶלָה. 3
Many there are that say of my soul:
‘There is no salvation for him in God.’

ד וְאַתָּה יְהוָה, מָגֵן בַּעֲדִי; כְּבוֹדִי, וּמֵרִים רֹאשִׁי. 4
But thou, O jehovah, art a shield about me; my glory, and the lifter up of my head.

ה קוֹלִי, אֶל-יְהוָה אֶקְרָא; וַיַּעֲנֵנִי מֵהַר קָדְשׁוֹ סֶלָה. 5
With my voice I call unto jehovah, and He answereth me out of His holy mountain.

ו אֲנִי שָׁכַבְתִּי, וָאִישָׁנָה; הֱקִיצוֹתִי–כִּי יְהוָה יִסְמְכֵנִי. 6
I lay me down, and I sleep; I awake, for jehovah sustaineth me.

ז לֹא-אִירָא, מֵרִבְבוֹת עָם– אֲשֶׁר סָבִיב, שָׁתוּ עָלָי. 7
I am not afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.

ח קוּמָה יְהוָה, הוֹשִׁיעֵנִי אֱלֹהַי– כִּי-הִכִּיתָ אֶת-כָּל-אֹיְבַי לֶחִי;
שִׁנֵּי רְשָׁעִים שִׁבַּרְתָּ. 8
Arise, O jehovah; save me, O my God; for Thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek, {N}
Thou hast broken the teeth of the wicked.

ט לַיהוָה הַיְשׁוּעָה; עַל-עַמְּךָ בִרְכָתֶךָ סֶּלָה. 9
Salvation belongeth unto jehovah; Thy blessing be upon Thy people.

Chapter 4 |:Put Your Trust in Jehovah:|
א לַמְנַצֵּחַ בִּנְגִינוֹת, מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד. 1
For the Leader; with string-music. A Psalm of David.
ב בְּקָרְאִי, עֲנֵנִי אֱלֹהֵי צִדְקִי–בַּצָּר, הִרְחַבְתָּ לִּי; חָנֵּנִי, וּשְׁמַע תְּפִלָּתִי. 2
Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness, Thou who didst set me free when I was in distress; be gracious unto me, and hear my prayer.

ג בְּנֵי אִישׁ, עַד-מֶה כְבוֹדִי לִכְלִמָּה–תֶּאֱהָבוּן רִיק; תְּבַקְשׁוּ כָזָב סֶלָה. 3
O ye sons of men, how long shall my glory be put to shame, in that ye love vanity, and seek after falsehood?

ד וּדְעוּ–כִּי-הִפְלָה יְהוָה, חָסִיד לוֹ; יְהוָה יִשְׁמַע, בְּקָרְאִי אֵלָיו. 4
But know that jehovah hath set apart the godly man as His own; jehovah will hear when I call unto Him.

ה רִגְזוּ, וְאַל-תֶּחֱטָאוּ: אִמְרוּ בִלְבַבְכֶם, עַל-מִשְׁכַּבְכֶם; וְדֹמּוּ סֶלָה. 5
Tremble, and sin not; commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still.

ו זִבְחוּ זִבְחֵי-צֶדֶק; וּבִטְחוּ, אֶל-יְהוָה. 6
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in jehovah.

ז רַבִּים אֹמְרִים, מִי-יַרְאֵנוּ-טוֹב: נְסָה עָלֵינוּ, אוֹר פָּנֶיךָ יְהוָה. 7
Many there are that say:
‘Oh that we could see some good!’
Jehovah, lift Thou up the light of Thy countenance upon us.

ח נָתַתָּה שִׂמְחָה בְלִבִּי; מֵעֵת דְּגָנָם וְתִירוֹשָׁם רָבּוּ. 8
Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than when their corn and their wine increase.

ט בְּשָׁלוֹם יַחְדָּו, אֶשְׁכְּבָה וְאִישָׁן: כִּי-אַתָּה יְהוָה לְבָדָד; לָבֶטַח, תּוֹשִׁיבֵנִי. 9
In peace will I both lay me down and sleep; for Thou, jehovah, makest me dwell alone in safety. {P}

Chapter 5 |:Make Thy Way Straight Before My Face:|
א לַמְנַצֵּחַ אֶל-הַנְּחִילוֹת, מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד. 1
For the Leader; upon the Nehiloth. A Psalm of David.
ב אֲמָרַי הַאֲזִינָה יְהוָה; בִּינָה הֲגִיגִי. 2
Give ear to my words, O jehovah, consider my meditation.

ג הַקְשִׁיבָה, לְקוֹל שַׁוְעִי–מַלְכִּי וֵאלֹהָי: כִּי-אֵלֶיךָ, אֶתְפַּלָּל. 3
Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God; for unto Thee do I pray.

ד יְהוָה–בֹּקֶר, תִּשְׁמַע קוֹלִי; בֹּקֶר אֶעֱרָךְ-לְךָ, וַאֲצַפֶּה. 4
Jehovah, in the morning shalt Thou hear my voice; in the morning will I order my prayer unto Thee, and will look forward.

ה כִּי, לֹא אֵל חָפֵץ רֶשַׁע אָתָּה: לֹא יְגֻרְךָ רָע. 5
For Thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness; evil shall not sojourn with Thee.

ו לֹא-יִתְיַצְּבוּ הוֹלְלִים, לְנֶגֶד עֵינֶיךָ; שָׂנֵאתָ, כָּל-פֹּעֲלֵי אָוֶן. 6
The boasters shall not stand in Thy sight; Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

ז תְּאַבֵּד, דֹּבְרֵי כָזָב: אִישׁ-דָּמִים וּמִרְמָה, יְתָעֵב יְהוָה. 7
Thou destroyest them that speak falsehood; jehovah abhorreth the man of blood and of deceit.

ח וַאֲנִי–בְּרֹב חַסְדְּךָ, אָבוֹא בֵיתֶךָ; אֶשְׁתַּחֲוֶה אֶל-הֵיכַל-קָדְשְׁךָ, בְּיִרְאָתֶךָ. 8
But as for me, in the abundance of Thy lovingkindness will I come into Thy house; I will bow down toward Thy holy temple in the fear of Thee.

ט יְהוָה, נְחֵנִי בְצִדְקָתֶךָ–לְמַעַן שׁוֹרְרָי; הושר (הַיְשַׁר) לְפָנַי דַּרְכֶּךָ. 9
O jehovah, lead me in Thy righteousness because of them that lie in wait for me; make Thy way straight before my face.

י כִּי אֵין בְּפִיהוּ, נְכוֹנָה–קִרְבָּם הַוּוֹת: קֶבֶר-פָּתוּחַ גְּרֹנָם; לְשׁוֹנָם, יַחֲלִיקוּן. 10
For there is no sincerity in their mouth; their inward part is a yawning gulf, their throat is an open sepulchre; they make smooth their tongue.

יא הַאֲשִׁימֵם, אֱלֹהִים– יִפְּלוּ, מִמֹּעֲצוֹתֵיהֶם:
בְּרֹב פִּשְׁעֵיהֶם, הַדִּיחֵמוֹ– כִּי-מָרוּ בָךְ. 11
Hold them guilty, O God, let them fall by their own counsels; {N}
cast them down in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against Thee.

יב וְיִשְׂמְחוּ כָל-חוֹסֵי בָךְ, לְעוֹלָם יְרַנֵּנוּ– וְתָסֵךְ עָלֵימוֹ;
וְיַעְלְצוּ בְךָ, אֹהֲבֵי שְׁמֶךָ. 12
So shall all those that take refuge in Thee rejoice, they shall ever shout for joy, and Thou shalt shelter them; {N}
let them also that love Thy name exult in Thee.

יג כִּי-אַתָּה, תְּבָרֵךְ צַדִּיק: יְהוָה–כַּצִּנָּה, רָצוֹן תַּעְטְרֶנּוּ. 13
For Thou dost bless the righteous; O jehovah, Thou dost encompass him with favour as with a shield. {P}
