He drove out the masses also before them, and allotted them for an inheritance by line, {N}

and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

Yet they tried and provoked the Almighty, ‘Elyown and kept not His testimonies;

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

But turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers;

they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

For they provoked Him with their high places, and moved Him to jealousy with their graven images.

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

The Almighty heard, and was wroth, and He greatly abhorred Israel;

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

And He forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which He had made to dwell among men;

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

And delivered His strength into captivity, and His glory into the adversary’s hand.

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

He gave His people over also unto the sword;

and was wroth with His inheritance.

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

Fire devoured their young men;

and their virgins had no marriage-song.

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

Their priests fell by the sword;

and their widows made no lamentation.

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

Then my Lord awaked as one asleep, like a mighty man recovering from wine.

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

And He smote His adversaries backward;

He put upon them a perpetual reproach.

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

Moreover He abhorred the tent of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim;

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which He loved.

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

And He built His sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which He hath founded for ever.

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

He chose David also His servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

From following the ewes that give suck He brought him, to be shepherd over Jacob His people, and Israel His inheritance.

*My Lord Awaked As One Asleep Like a Mighty Man*

So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart;

and lead them by the skilfulness of his hands. {P}

Chapter 79 *The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

אֱלֹהִים, בָּאוּ גוֹיִם בְּנַחֲלָתֶךָ– טִמְּאוּ, אֶת הֵיכַל קָדְשֶׁךָ;

שָׂמוּ אֶת-יְרוּשָׁלִַם לְעִיִּים. 1 A Psalm of Asaph. {N}

O God, the heathen are come into Thine inheritance; they have defiled Thy holy temple;{N}

they have made Jerusalem into heaps.

*The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

ב נָתְנוּ, אֶת-נִבְלַת עֲבָדֶיךָ– מַאֲכָל, לְעוֹף הַשָּׁמָיִם;

They have given the dead bodies of Thy servants to be food unto the fowls of the heaven, {N}

the flesh of Thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.

*The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

They have shed their blood like water round about Jerusalem, with none to bury them.

*The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

We are become a taunt to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.

*The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

How long, O jehovah, wilt Thou be angry for ever?

How long will Thy jealousy burn like fire?

*The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

Pour out Thy wrath upon the masses that know Thee not, {N}

and upon the kingdoms that call not upon Thy name.

*The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his habitation.

*The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

Remember not against us the iniquities of our forefathers; {N}

let Thy compassions speedily come to meet us;

for we are brought very low.

*The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

ט עָזְרֵנוּ, אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׁעֵנוּ– עַל-דְּבַר כְּבוֹד-שְׁמֶךָ;

Help us, Almighty our yeshua, for the sake of the glory of Thy name; {N}

and deliver us, and cover our sins, for Thy name’s sake.

*The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

Wherefore should the masses say:

‘Where is their Almighty One?’ {N}

Let the avenging of Thy servants’ blood that is shed be made known among the masses in our sight.

*The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

Let the groaning of the prisoner come before Thee;

according to the greatness of Thy power set free those that are appointed to death;

*The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

יב וְהָשֵׁב לִשְׁכֵנֵינוּ שִׁבְעָתַיִם, אֶל-חֵיקָם;

And render unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, {N}

wherewith they have reproached Thee, my Lord.

*The Flock of Thy Pasture Will Give Thee Thanks For Ever*

So we that are Thy people and the flock of Thy pasture will give Thee thanks for ever; {N}

we will tell of Thy praise to all generations. {P}

O Almighty One of the hosts, restore us;

*Cause Thy Face To Shine and We Shall Be Saved.”

Thou didst pluck up a vine out of Egypt;

Thou didst drive out the masses, and didst plant it.

*Cause Thy Face To Shine and We Shall Be Saved.”

Thou didst clear a place before it, and it took deep root, and filled the land.

*Cause Thy Face To Shine and We Shall Be Saved.”

The mountains were covered with the shadow of it, and the mighty cedars with the boughs thereof.

O God of hosts, return, we beseech Thee; {N}

look from heaven, and behold, and be mindful of this vine,

*Cause Thy Face To Shine and We Shall Be Saved.”
