Psalms
14-26

Chapter 14
אָמַר נָבָל בְּלִבּוֹ, אֵין אֱלֹהִים;
For the Leader. [A Psalm] of David. {N}
The fool hath said in his heart:
‘There is no Savior’; {N}
they have dealt corruptly, they have done abominably;
there is none that doeth good.
The Eternal One looked forth from heaven upon the sons of man, {N}
to see if there were any man of understanding, that did seek after Savior.
They are all corrupt, they are together become impure;
there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
‘Shall not all the workers of iniquity know it, who eat up My people as they eat bread, and call not upon The Eternal One?’
There are they in great fear;
for Savior is with the righteous generation.
Ye would put to shame the counsel of the poor, but The Eternal One is his refuge.
Oh that the yeshua of Israel {N}
were come out of Zion!
When The Eternal One turneth the captivity of His people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad. {P}

Chapter 15
A Psalm of David.
O Eternal One, who shall sojourn in Thy tabernacle?
Who shall dwell upon Thy holy mountain?
He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh truth in his heart;
That hath no slander upon his tongue, nor doeth evil to his fellow, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour;
ד נִבְזֶה, בְּעֵינָיו נִמְאָס– וְאֶת-יִרְאֵי יְהוָה יְכַבֵּד;
In whose eyes a vile person is despised, but he honoureth them that honor The Eternal One; {N}
he that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not;
He that putteth not out his money on interest, nor taketh a bribe against the innocent. {N}
He that doeth these things shall never be moved. {P}

Chapter 16
Michtam of David.
Keep me, O Savior;
for I have taken refuge in Thee.
I have said unto The Eternal One:
‘Thou art my Savior;
I have no good but in Thee’;
As for the holy that are in the earth, they are the excellent in whom is all my delight.
Let the idols of them be multiplied that make suit unto another; {N}
their drink-offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take their names upon my lips.
O Eternal One, the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup, Thou maintainest my lot.
The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places;
yea, I have a goodly heritage.
I will bless The Eternal One, who hath given me counsel;
yea, in the night seasons my reins instruct me.
I have set The Eternal One always before me;
surely He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth;
my flesh also dwelleth in safety;
For Thou wilt not abandon my soul to the nether-world;
neither wilt Thou suffer Thy kindly one to see the pit.
Thou makest me to know the path of life; {N}
in Thy presence is fulness of joy, in Thy right hand bliss for evermore. {P}

Chapter 17
שִׁמְעָה יְהוָה, צֶדֶק– הַקְשִׁיבָה רִנָּתִי, הַאֲזִינָה תְפִלָּתִי;
A Prayer of David. {N}
Hear the right, O Eternal One, attend unto my cry;
give ear unto my prayer {N}
from lips without deceit.
Let my judgment come forth from Thy presence;
let Thine eyes behold equity.
ג בָּחַנְתָּ לִבִּי, פָּקַדְתָּ לַּיְלָה– צְרַפְתַּנִי בַל-תִּמְצָא;
Thou hast tried my heart, Thou hast visited it in the night;
Thou hast tested me, and Thou findest not {N}
that I had a thought which should not pass my mouth.
As for the doings of men, by the word of Thy lips I have kept me from the ways of the violent.
My steps have held fast to Thy paths, my feet have not slipped.
As for me, I call upon Thee, for Thou wilt answer me, O Savior;
incline Thine ear unto me, hear my speech.
Make passing great Thy kindfulness, O Thou that savest by Thy right hand from assailants them that take refuge in Thee.
Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me in the shadow of Thy wings,
From the wicked that oppress, my deadly enemies, that compass me about.
Their gross heart they have shut tight, with their mouth they speak proudly.
At our every step they have now encompassed us;
they set their eyes to cast us down to the earth.
He is like a lion that is eager to tear in pieces, and like a young lion lurking in secret places.
יג קוּמָה יְהוָה– קַדְּמָה פָנָיו, הַכְרִיעֵהוּ;
Arise, O Eternal One, confront him, cast him down; {N}
deliver my soul from the wicked, by Thy sword;
From men, by Thy hand, O Eternal One, from men of the world, {N}
whose portion is in this life, and whose belly Thou fillest with Thy treasure; {N}
who have sons in plenty, and leave their abundance to their babes.
As for me, I shall behold Thy face in righteousness;
I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness. {P}

Chapter 18
For the Leader.
[A Psalm] of David the servant of The Eternal One, {N}
who spoke unto The Eternal One the words of this song {N}
in the day that The Eternal One delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul;
And he said:
I love thee, O Eternal One, my strength.
The Eternal One is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; {N}
my Savior, my rock, in Him I take refuge;
my shield, and my horn of yeshua, my high tower.
Praised, I cry, is The Eternal One, and I am saved from mine enemies.
The cords of Death compassed me, and the floods of Belial assailed me.
The cords of Sheol surrounded me;
the snares of Death confronted me.
In my distress I called upon The Eternal One, and cried unto my Savior; {N}
out of His temple He heard my voice, and my cry came before Him unto His ears.
ח וַתִּגְעַשׁ וַתִּרְעַשׁ, הָאָרֶץ– וּמוֹסְדֵי הָרִים יִרְגָּזוּ;
Then the earth did shake and quake, the foundations also of the mountains did tremble; {N}
they were shaken, because He was wroth.
ט עָלָה עָשָׁן, בְּאַפּוֹ– וְאֵשׁ-מִפִּיו תֹּאכֵל;
Smoke arose up in His nostrils, and fire out of His mouth did devour; {N}
coals flamed forth from Him.
He bowed the heavens also, and came down;
and thick darkness was under His feet.
And He rode upon a cherub, and did fly;
yea, He did swoop down upon the wings of the wind.
יב יָשֶׁת חֹשֶׁךְ, סִתְרוֹ– סְבִיבוֹתָיו סֻכָּתוֹ;
He made darkness His hiding-place, His pavilion round about Him; {N}
darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
At the brightness before Him, there passed through His thick clouds hailstones and coals of fire.
The Eternal One also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High gave forth His voice;
hailstones and coals of fire.
And He sent out His arrows, and scattered them;
and He shot forth lightnings, and discomfited them.
And the channels of waters appeared, and the foundations of the world were laid bare, {N}
at Thy rebuke, O Eternal One, at the blast of the breath of Thy nostrils.
He sent from on high, He took me;
He drew me out of many waters.
He delivered me from mine enemy most strong, and from them that hated me, for they were too mighty for me.
They confronted me in the day of my calamity;
but The Eternal One was a stay unto me.
He brought me forth also into a large place;
He delivered me, because He delighted in me.
The Eternal One rewarded me according to my righteousness;
according to the cleanness of my hands hath He recompensed me.
For I have kept the ways of The Eternal One, and have not wickedly departed from my Savior.
For all His ordinances were before me, and I put not away His statutes from me.
And I was single-hearted with Him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity.
Therefore hath The Eternal One recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes.
With the merciful Thou dost show Thyself merciful, with the upright man Thou dost show Thyself upright;
With the pure Thou dost show Thyself pure;
and with the crooked Thou dost show Thyself subtle.
For Thou dost save the afflicted people;
but the haughty eyes Thou dost humble.
For Thou dost light my lamp;
The Eternal One my Savior doth lighten my darkness.
For by Thee I run upon a troop;
and by my Savior do I scale a wall.
As for Savior, His way is perfect; {N}
the word of The Eternal One is tried;
He is a shield unto all them that take refuge in Him.
For who is Savior, save The Eternal One?
And who is a Rock, except our Savior?
The Savior that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way straight;
Who maketh my feet like hinds’, and setteth me upon my high places;
Who traineth my hands for war, so that mine arms do bend a bow of brass.
Thou hast also given me Thy shield of yeshua, and Thy right hand hath holden me up;
and Thy condescension hath made me great.
Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, and my feet have not slipped.
I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them;
neither did I turn back till they were consumed.
I have smitten them through, so that they are not able to rise;
they are fallen under my feet.
For Thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle;
Thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.
Thou hast also made mine enemies turn their backs unto me, and I did cut off them that hate me.
They cried, but there was none to save;
even unto The Eternal One, but He answered them not.
Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind;
I did cast them out as the mire of the streets.
Thou hast delivered me from the contentions of the people;
Thou hast made me the head of the nations;
a people whom I have not known serve me.
As soon as they hear of me, they obey me;
the sons of the stranger dwindle away before me.
The sons of the stranger fade away, and come trembling out of their close places.
The Eternal One liveth, and blessed be my Rock;
and exalted be the Savior of my yeshua;
Even the Savior that executeth vengeance for me, and subdueth peoples under me.
He delivereth me from mine enemies;
yea, Thou liftest me up above them that rise up against me;
Thou deliverest me from the violent man.
Therefore I will give thanks unto Thee, O Eternal One, among the gatherings, and will sing praises unto Thy name.
Great salvation giveth He to His king; {N}
and showeth mercy to His anointed, to David and to his seed, for evermore. {P}

Chapter 19
For the Leader. A Psalm of David.
The heavens declare the glory of The Savior, and the firmament showeth His handiwork;
Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night revealeth knowledge;
There is no speech, there are no words, neither is their voice heard.
ה בְּכָל-הָאָרֶץ, יָצָא קַוָּם, וּבִקְצֵה תֵבֵל, מִלֵּיהֶם;
Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. {N}
In them hath He set a tent for the sun,
Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run his course.
His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it;
and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
The Teaching of The Eternal One is perfect, restoring the soul;
the Edict of The Eternal One is sure, making wise the simple.
The Precepts of The Eternal One are right, rejoicing the heart;
the Commandment of The Eternal One is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The reverance of The Eternal One is clean, enduring for ever;
the ordinances of The Eternal One are true, they are righteous altogether;
More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them is Thy servant warned;
in keeping of them there is great reward.
Who can discern his errors?
Clear Thou me from hidden faults.

Keep back Thy servant also from presumptuous sins, that they may not have dominion over me; {N}
then shall I be faultless, and I shall be clear from great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before Thee, {N}
O Eternal One, my Rock, and my Redeemer. {P}

For the Leader.
A Psalm of David.
The Eternal One answer thee in the day of trouble;
the name of the Savior of Jacob set thee up on high;
Send forth thy help from the sanctuary, and support thee out of Zion;
Receive the memorial of all thy meal-offerings, and accept the fat of thy burnt-sacrifice;

We will shout for joy in thy victory, and in the name of our Savior we will set up our standards; {N}
The Eternal One fulfil all thy petitions.

Now know I that The Eternal One saveth His anointed; {N}
He will answer him from His holy heaven with the mighty acts of His saving right hand.

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; {N}
but we will make mention of the name of The Eternal One our Savior.
They are bowed down and fallen;
but we are risen, and stand upright.

Save, O Eternal One;
let the King answer us in the day that we call. {P}

A Psalm of David.

so will we sing and praise Thy power. {P}

Chapter 22
For the Leader;
upon Aijeleth ha-Shahar.
A Psalm of David.
My Savior, my Savior, why hast Thou forsaken me, and art far from my help at the words of my cry?
O my Savior, I call by day, but Thou answerest not;
and at night, and there is no surcease for me.
Yet Thou art holy, O Thou that art enthroned upon the praises of Israel.
In Thee did our fathers trust;
they trusted, and Thou didst deliver them.
Unto Thee they cried, and escaped;
in Thee did they trust, and were not ashamed.
But I am a worm, and no man;
a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
All they that see me laugh me to scorn;
they shoot out the lip, they shake the head:
‘Let him commit himself unto The Eternal One!
let Him rescue him;
let Him deliver him, seeing He delighteth in him.’
For Thou art He that took me out of the womb;
Thou madest me trust when I was upon my mother’s breasts.
Upon Thee I have been cast from my birth;
Thou art my Savior from my mother’s womb.
Be not far from me;
for trouble is near;
for there is none to help.
Many bulls have encompassed me;
strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
They open wide their mouth against me, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; {N}
my heart is become like wax;
it is melted in mine inmost parts.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd;
and my tongue cleaveth to my throat;
and Thou layest me in the dust of death.
For dogs have encompassed me;
a company of evil-doers have inclosed me;
like a lion, they are at my hands and my feet.
I may count all my bones;
they look and gloat over me.
They part my garments among them, and for my vesture do they cast lots.
But Thou, O Eternal One, be not far off;
O Thou my strength, hasten to help me.
Deliver my soul from the sword;
mine only one from the power of the dog.

yea, from the horns of the wild-oxen do Thou answer me.
I will declare Thy name unto my brethren;
in the midst of the congregation will I praise Thee.
כד יִרְאֵי יְהוָה, הַלְלוּהוּ– כָּל-זֶרַע יַעֲקֹב כַּבְּדוּהוּ;

‘Ye that fear The Eternal One, praise Him;
all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify Him; {N}
and stand in awe of Him, all ye the seed of Israel.
כה כִּי לֹא-בָזָה וְלֹא שִׁקַּץ, עֱנוּת עָנִי– וְלֹא-הִסְתִּיר פָּנָיו מִמֶּנּוּ;
For He hath not despised nor abhorred the lowliness of the poor;
neither hath He hid His face from him; {N}
but when he cried unto Him, He heard.’
From Thee cometh my praise in the great assembly;
I will pay my vows before them that fear Him.
כז יֹאכְלוּ עֲנָוִים, וְיִשְׂבָּעוּ– יְהַלְלוּ יְהוָה, דֹּרְשָׁיו;

Let the humble eat and be satisfied;
let them praise The Eternal One that seek after Him; {N}
may your heart be quickened for ever!
כח יִזְכְּרוּ, וְיָשֻׁבוּ אֶל-יְהוָה– כָּל-אַפְסֵי-אָרֶץ;
All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto The Eternal One; {N}
and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before Thee.
For the kingdom is The Eternal One’s;
and He is the ruler over the nations.
ל אָכְלוּ וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ, כָּל-דִּשְׁנֵי-אֶרֶץ– לְפָנָיו יִכְרְעוּ, כָּל-יוֹרְדֵי עָפָר;
All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and worship;
all they that go down to the dust shall kneel before Him, {N}
even he that cannot keep his soul alive.
A seed shall serve him;
it shall be told of the Lord unto the next generation.
They shall come and shall declare His righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that He hath done it. {P}

A Psalm of David.
The Eternal One is my shepherd;

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; {N}
Thou hast anointed my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.

Chapter 26
א לְדָוִד: שָׁפְטֵנִי יְהוָה– כִּי-אֲנִי, בְּתֻמִּי הָלַכְתִּי;
[A Psalm] of David.
Judge me, O Eternal One, for I have walked in mine integrity, {N}
and I have trusted in The Eternal One without wavering.
Examine me, O Eternal One, and try me;
test my reins and my heart.
For Thy kindness is before mine eyes;
and I have walked in Thy truth.
I have not sat with men of falsehood;
neither will I go in with dissemblers.
I hate the gathering of evil doers, and will not sit with the wicked.
I will wash my hands in innocency;
so will I compass Thine altar, O Eternal One,
That I may make the voice of thanksgiving to be heard, and tell of all Thy wondrous works.
O Eternal One, I love the habitation of Thy house, and the place where Thy glory dwelleth.
Gather not my soul with sinners, nor my life with men of blood;
In whose hands is craftiness, and their right hand is full of bribes.
But as for me, I will walk
in mine integrity; redeem me, and be gracious unto me.
My foot standeth in an even place;
in the community will I bless The Eternal One. {P}
